Help & Support
Find quick answers to the questions people ask most about CalorieQuest. If something here doesn't solve your issue, email us at [email protected] and we'll help.
Getting started
How do I create an account?
Open the app and sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook. Your profile, diary, streaks, and rewards are tied to that account, so use the same sign-in method each time to keep your data.
What happens during onboarding?
We ask for a few details — such as age range, height, weight, sex, activity level, and your goal — so we can calculate your daily calorie and macro targets. You can update any of these later from your profile.
Can I change my goal or profile later?
Yes. Open your profile to edit your weight, height, activity level, goal, and targets at any time. New targets apply going forward and don't change days you've already logged.
Logging food & AI analysis
How do I log a meal with a photo?
Tap to log food, take or pick a photo, and CalorieQuest estimates the calories, macros, and ingredients. Review the result and save it to your diary. You can also remove the photo before saving if you'd rather log without an image.
How accurate are the AI nutrition estimates?
AI estimates are a starting point, not medical or dietary advice, and they can be wrong. Always review the calories, macros, and portion before saving, and adjust anything that looks off so your diary stays accurate.
Can I edit calories, macros, or portion size?
Yes. Before saving an entry you can adjust the portion and correct the calories and macros. Your edits are what gets saved to the diary, replacing the AI estimate.
Why is my meal still "analyzing" after I left the screen?
Photo analysis can finish in the background, so you don't have to wait on the screen. If a photo doesn't return a result, check your internet connection and try logging it again.
Calorie targets & energy
How are my daily calorie and macro targets calculated?
Targets are based on your profile — age range, height, weight, sex, activity level, and goal. Change any of those in your profile and your recommended intake updates accordingly.
What does the net energy or "burn" number mean?
Net energy compares what you eat (intake) with what your body uses (expenditure). Expenditure combines resting metabolism, digesting food, everyday movement, and exercise. See the Energy balance guide for a full explanation.
Why doesn't my expected number match my actual?
The expected figure is a full-day estimate from your profile. The actual figure reflects what you've logged and the movement data measured so far today, so the two converge as the day goes on.
Health & device sync
How do I connect Apple Health or Health Connect?
When prompted, grant the health permissions CalorieQuest requests. Permissions are grouped — body measurements, nutrition, and energy/activity — so you can allow only what you want. We use them to sync active calories and logged meal nutrition.
Can I change or revoke health permissions?
Yes. Manage them anytime in your device settings under Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android). Revoking a permission just stops that data from syncing; your diary stays intact.
Why is my activity or weight not showing up?
Confirm the relevant health permission is granted and that your device's health app actually has the data. If you recently granted access, reopen CalorieQuest so it can read the latest values.
Rewards & gamification
How do XP, streaks, and trophies work?
You earn XP and unlock trophies as you log meals and hit goals, and your streak grows for each day you stay active. They're there to keep healthy habits motivating — they don't affect your nutrition data.
What are cosmetics and the mascot?
Cosmetics are unlockable items you can claim and equip to customize the app, including a companion mascot that reacts to your progress. Equip choices are saved on your device; claimed items stay tied to your account.
I lost my streak — can it be restored?
Streaks reset when a day is missed. Keep logging to build a new one, and watch for in-app reminders that help you stay on track.
Pro & subscriptions
What do I get with CalorieQuest Pro?
Pro unlocks advanced features such as detailed nutrient breakdowns, AI-suggested targets, full burn/energy details, recipes, extended insights ranges, and reminders. Free features remain available without a subscription.
What plans are available?
CalorieQuest offers subscription plans and a one-time lifetime option. Current pricing and any free trial are shown on the upgrade screen in the app and on your store account.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?
Sign in with the same store account (Apple ID or Google account) you used to buy Pro, then use the restore option on the upgrade screen. Your entitlement is tied to that store account.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed by the App Store or Google Play. Cancel or change them in your store account's subscription settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the current period ends.
Can I upgrade from a subscription to lifetime?
If an upgrade is available, you'll see the option on the upgrade screen. Buying lifetime while subscribed gives you permanent access — remember to cancel the recurring subscription afterward in your store settings so it doesn't renew.
Reminders & notifications
How do I turn reminders on or off?
Manage reminders in the app's settings, and notification permission itself in your device settings. Reminders help you log meals and protect your streak.
I'm not receiving notifications.
Make sure notifications are allowed for CalorieQuest in your device settings, that Do Not Disturb or Focus modes aren't silencing them, and that reminders are enabled in the app.
Account, data & privacy
How do I switch between light and dark mode or change language?
Choose your theme (system, light, or dark) and language in the app's settings. CalorieQuest supports English and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). These preferences are saved on your device.
How do I delete my account and data?
Request account deletion from within the app. We're designed to delete the app data associated with your account unless retention is required by law. If you used Facebook Login, you can also follow our Facebook data deletion instructions.
What data does CalorieQuest collect?
Account details, profile and goal info, meal and nutrition data, optional health-integration data, purchase status, and basic diagnostics. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
